AGM_2015_2Our 20th annual general meeting was held at the University of Ottawa in our nation’s capital on 19 June 2015. The theme of the meeting was Laurentian SETAC, 20 Years in the Making: Reflecting on Our Past and Working Towards a Greener Future in order to commemorate our milestone anniversary.

We were fortunate to have three exceptional plenary speakers in Dr. Vance Trudeau, University Ottawa, Dr. John Purdy, Abacus Consulting, and Mark Bonnell, Environment Canada. Ten platforms and thirteen posters were also presented at the meeting, spanning a wide range of topics in environmental toxicology and chemistry, from assessing the toxicity of quantum dots to corn, to examining the historical trends in contaminant exposure in a 4,000-year-old bat guano deposit from Jamaica. This is an example of the breath of expertise contained within our membership and friends of L-SETAC.

A well-attended short course was also delivered by Leana Van der Vliet, Environment Canada on How to sabotage your t-test with power analysis on the day before the annual general meeting. Bridging the short course and annual general meeting was a fantastic haunted walk of Ottawa. Not even the rain could deter L-SETACers from participating!

Thank you to the AGM Committee for organizing an outstanding meeting! Heads up to members and friends of L-SETAC: the AGM in 2016 will be in Waterloo. It’s a great opportunity to hear about interesting research being conducted in Ontario and make new friends in the community of environmental toxicology and chemistry. Hope to see you there!
